Helpful Tips

Choosing the Right Size

  • For odd-shaped spaces we suggest you break the room into smaller measurements to calculate the square metre of the pieces. Finally, you will add all the numbers for each piece to get the estimate total square metre measurement.
  • The internal part of the split system should be positioned away from any heat-generating appliances, up on the wall so cool air is distributed around the room, never above electrical fittings for safety reasons, and somewhere that suits the style of the room.
  • Do not buy oversize to try cool/heat rooms faster, an air conditioner that is too large will cycle on and off frequently and is not energy efficient.
  • If you have extra high ceilings you may need to factor in ceiling height, but generally, just the floor space measurement is enough.
  • In rooms with lots of sun exposure shade your windows in summer with curtains, awnings, or shutters to reduce heat absorption by up to 80%
  • If unsure you are calculating correctly seek professional advice to ensure the perfectly fitted and suitable air conditioner

Split Size calculator FAQ

Selecting the correct size for your split system is an important decision to get the best out of your unit.

An air conditioner that is too large can lead to short cycles that create uneven cooling, increased energy use, and higher expenses. On the other hand, a unit that is too small for your space will struggle to maintain an optimal temperature, resulting in constant operation, service repairs, and a short lifespan.

To calculate the room size where your air conditioner will be placed, you need to measure the length and width using a tape measure. For example, if your room has a length of 4.5 metres and a width of 4 metres, the total area would be 18 square metres.

Here’s the quick calculation breakdown:
– Length: 4.5 metres
– Width: 4 metres
– Area Calculation: Length (4.5m) x Width (4m) = 18 square metres

We suggest having a good clearance space of around 1 metre from the sides, top and front of your AC unit to ensure that your indoor plants can naturally adapt to the change in temperature.

Certain maintenance such as regular cleans allow for a better working air conditioner system. Closing surrounding windows or running air conditioners at efficient times can also help you save money. Another tip is not turning it off and on all the time, running for longer amounts of time rather than turning it off and on over short amounts of time will reduce your energy bill in the long run.

For living areas, we recommend during our installations that we position your split system higher up, as cool air naturally sinks.

An ideal placement would be above your couch or in a central location where air can flow toward high-traffic areas, providing immediate comfort and a cooling effect.
